To clarify

Are you trying to enter child care payments you paid someone to care for your child or dependent, or are you referring to Advance Child Tax Credit payments you received.

What section or screen are you working on?

Yes, I'm trying to enter the amount I paid towards the daycare. I see where my 2019 year amount is but doesn't give options to add 2020

lease clarify.  Are you trying to post your 2021 tax return?  Did you not file in 2020 and do you want to file now, or are you posting a 2020 amended return?

Are you filing a married filing jointly tax return?  If so, each taxpayer must report earned income.  To check what has been entered in the program:

  • Go to Federal / Wages & Income / Your income / Job (W-2).
  • Click Edit / Add to the right.
  • At the screen Your W-2 info so far, the summary will show the name for each W-2 as it was entered.

IRS Publication 503 page 4 states:

You Must Have Earned Income

To claim the credit, you (and your spouse if filing jointly) must have earned income during the year.
