The top of the page says to enter the Tax ID Number, but the options below it has EIN, SSN, or OTHER, but none of those options allow me to enter in the Tax ID that I have from the child care provider.
The tax ID is either a social security number which starts with 3 digits before the dash or a EIN which starts with 2 digits.
The Tax ID for the child care would be either an EIN or SSN. An EIN is nine digits and the format is XX-XXXXXXX. A SSN also has nine digits and is formatted XXX-XX-XXXX.
If you have another format for the Tax ID, let us know.
I am having the same issue. My child care is provided by a day care, not an individual. I have the TIN number but there is no place to enter it. when i enter it as the EIN, it appears under the EIN column in the Provider summary page and the TIN column is blank (this implies that there should be some place to enter the TIN and associate it with the day care / business).
It sounds like you have the form filled out correctly. An EIN is one of several taxpayer ID numbers that the IRS recognizes. It is specifically for businesses with a format of xx-xxxxxxx.
The other ID numbers are for individuals and are formatted xxx-xx-xxxx as @PattiF said above.
If the EIN you entered is not showing on the summary page, it is a display error. TurboTax will not file your return without a TIN of some sort on Form 2441 because the IRS requires one for the daycare provider.
