I'm a volunteer firefighter with an incentive program point system form, but can't figure out where to put my $3,000 deduction it allots.

Please share what state you are filing so that someone can point you in the right direction.

Ahh yes that would be helpful, South Carolina. 

According to the instructions for the SC 1040, the deduction up to $3000 should be reported on SC 1040 line j, under subtractions from Federal income.  In order to get the information reported on the SC form in the right spot, you will enter it as follows:

• Going through the SC return, look for a screen titled Here's the income that South Carolina handles differently
• Scroll to Public Service
• Click Start or Update beside Volunteer Income to enter a description and the amount of your deduction (enter it as a positive number)
