I just got my tax information for my vehicle registration. Can someone help me laugh at this later on and figure out how i can/if i can apply it to my presubmitted forms.

If there is no hope, allow me to accept it now

Sure...you indicated that you are posting from Online "Basic" TurboTax software.

As such you are using the Std Deduction.....and Property taxes paid as a part of a vehicle registration can only be used for a potential "Itemized Deduction".

1) it's unlikely the relatively minor Vehicle property tax would bump all your deductions into being able use it as an itemized deduction.....Assuming any portion of the registration is a property tax (for many states, it is not)

2)  But if it did, the cost of having to upgrade to Deluxe would cost you quite a bit more than any reduction in taxes that would result...so you can just ignore it.  (Because you would have to use Deluxe or higher to implement the use of itemized deductions.)

and

3) if you did want to attempt to use it....IF you've already filed, and IF your file has been accepted by the IRS....then you'd have to amend your taxes sometime in 3rd week of February....or any time later in the next couple months.

And amending can be a PITA for little gain...if any.

_______
Current cost of upgrading to Deluxe is $40   {plus a state for another $40. for $80 total?)

Say your other itemized deductions put you right at the STD Ded limit  (BIG IF !!)

and IF your Vehicle registration was $200 and if it is ALL Property tax (doubtful).

Then it might be worth $20 in reduced Fed taxes (if you are in the 10% tax bracket)

....or perhaps $44 if you are in the 22% tax bracket (etc depending on your tax bracket)

.

....and then upgrading to Deluxe costs you either $40, or $80????

Why bother?
