what is your visa status, how long have you been in the US and what is the income code in box 1 of the 1042s?
I have a 1042 s form and they withhold my taxes and i have live in the US for 22 years how can i file in turbo tax
That stand for gambling winnings. Enter them as if you had received a W2G. Next time you have winnings, tell them you are a a permanent resident /resident alien/citizen (whichever applies), so they will give you the correct form next time.
You are still a non-resident alien (the first 5 calendar years on F1) and need to file form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ plus from 8843. Those forms have a specific space to report the 1042s. Turbotax does not support these forms.
Do you think I could go to for example H&R block and have them help me with it? Since I really do not know how to fill out these forms.
H/R probably knows less than you about these forms;-) You could try Sprintax
Can you tell me how this worked for you? I am in another country trying to file my 1042S. Sprintax did not work for my situation. Thanks
Please start a new threat/question and provide as much info as possible, like visa status, time in the US, income code on form 1042s, marital status etc.
Per the instructions in the program regarding Form 1042:
"TurboTax does not include this form, and it does not need to be filed with your income tax return. Got to www.irs.gov to get a form to fill out and then mail it to the address specified on the form instructions".
I am in US for 12+ years. I received 1042S (code 29) from one bank and 1099-INT from other bank, I always have filed 1040-EZ after 5 years in US. I do not know if I should change to 1040NR this year?
No, if you have stayed in the US for 12 plus years, you would not be a non-resident. You are a US resident for tax purposes. You will be filing a Form 1040. IRS has suspended Form 1040-EZ and 1040-A.
To report Form 1042S ( code 29), you will report it as you received interest on a Form 1099 INT.
To create and enter information on Form 1099-INT in TurboTax online program, simply follow these steps:
1. Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
2. In the upper right corner, in the search box, type in 1099int
3. Select Jump to 1099int
4. Follow prompts
