I have foreign dividends. Half from a country (Germany) and half from an RIC. But Turbotax will only let me select one "from option." How do I enter both?

In order for Turbo Tax to recognize that one dividend payment is from two different countries, I would make two 1099-DIV entries and report one-half of the dividend payment in each and split the foreign tax paid between the two entries.

  1. Go to federal>income and expenses>interest and dividends>1099DIV
  2. Enter one 1099-DIV reporting 1/2 the income and foreign tax paid for the first one
  3. The add a 1099--DIV and enter the second
  4. Now go to deductions and credits>estimates and other taxes paid>foreign tax credit
  5. Scroll through and answer questions until you get to a screen that says "where did you receive your Dividend income From?"
  6. Here you can select RIC and then in the next dropdown, select Germany
  7. Next screen will say income from Foreign Countries, select RIC first.
  8. Report the income and it will bring you back to the summary screen.
  9. Here you will select Germany and report Germany's income
  10. Here is what the two summary screens look like if you performed these steps.

That worked, thank you! For anyone else in this situation, some were US dividends, so I broke it out in Excel to make sure it all added up. So with this approach I input one 1099-div for the US dividends plus Germany, then the other had the RIC dividends.
