I have an HDFC Coop. Can I deduct anything?

Is there a tax deduction for my coop?

You may be able to deduct your mortgage interest and real estates taxes. Your cooperative would have given you a 1098 or the equivalent of one that shows your portion of the mortgage interest and real estate taxes.

Furthermore, if they do not specify the name of the mortgage lender, it would be appropriate to just list the name of your housing cooperative, or you can simply call the board and ask them for the name.

In TurboTax, to include your mortgage interest information:

  • Federal Taxes
  • Deductions & Credits
  • Your Home
  • Mortgage Interest, Refinancing, and Insurance, click Start
  • Enter Your Mortgage Lender- it could be the name of your housing cooperative, or you can simply call the board.
