I had to replace an old heat pump (24 years) with a new higher efficiency unit this year. Is there a tax credit for that?

You may be able to take up to 30 percent of the qualified costs(for assembly, preparation, and installation as well as piping and wiring) as a credit if you made energy saving improvements to your home located in the United States.

  1. Open you return in TurboTax.
  2. Select the down arrow to the right of Deductions & Credits.
  3. Select Pick up where you left off.
  4. Select Start or Edit to the right of Home Energy Credits.
  5. On the screen Energy Efficient Home Improvements, answer Yes, and Continue.
  6. Answer the questions according to your situation.
  7. On the screen, Enter your qualified energy property costs, enter the amount paid for your heat pump to the right of Heat pumps (electric or natural gas).
