You are asked on your federal return if you have a 1095A for marketplace health insurance.   If you do not have a 1095A and did not have health insurance from healthcare.gov then you say no to the question and move on in the software.

Or are you in one of the states that has a penalty if you do not have health insurance?

States that have mandates for health insurance

The only places with an individual mandate for health insurance are:

  • California
  • District of Columbia
  • Massachusetts
  • New Jersey
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont

Qualifying plans, exemptions and penalty criteria differ by state, so it’s important to make sure you know the fine print of your state’s system.

Yes. Your coverage through Amazon does count.  If it is not reported to you on a Form 1095-A then there is nothing for you to report. Indicate you had insurance the whole year.

Form 1095-B or 1095-C is not recorded on your tax return.  You can file with confidence.
