I had an HSA (2017). New plan not an HDHP. I still have $ in there & I like having a dedicated account for med. expenses. Can I keep the HSA and not claim it on taxes?

My HSA (to which I'm no longer eligible to contribute) though Health Equity is so convenient.  All my kids have their own card.  I want to keep contributing and spending so I can continue to use it as a dedicated medical account.  Can I do this and not claim any of the benefits when I file in 2018?

No, you cannot contribute to an account designated as an HSA once you no longer have a HDHP.  You can continue to maintain the account until the funds are used up, but you cannot add funds to the plan when you are not eligible.

An account could be set up for the purpose you indicate, in the same manner, but it must be a regular bank account and not an HSA.

For clarification the IRS definition of a HDHP is shown below.
