Exactly how did you come to that conclusion? What evidence points to that? In what fashion do you "suspect TTax then used that address"? Did you get any correspondence from the IRS about this?
The return indicated $0 tax owed. After I paid TTax and began the process to e-file I sudden;y owed about $1800.
Furthermore, I tried experimenting by going back to the federal section and removing a 1099 and the amount owed does not update.
And no, I did not hear from the IRS since I have not e-filed yet.
"The return indicated $0 tax owed. After I paid TTax and began the process to e-file I sudden;y owed about $1800. "
Are you saying your ACTUAL income tax return - the one you printed out before filing so you could thoroughly review it before sending it to the IRS - showed an amount owed of $0? OR, are you really talking about the "Refund-O-Meter" at the top of the page? If it's the latter then print out your actual income tax return and look at that. You don't file an income tax return and judge its correctness or otherwise by looking at the "Refund-O-Meter".
You don't cite anything to support your belief that what caused the change is due to "negated my bona fide foreign residency" so look at your ACTUAL income tax return and figure out what, if anything, is really going on. In the "desktop" versions, (you can always look at all the Forms, Schedules and Worksheets comprising your income tax return; I assume the "online" versions allow that too, once you've paid. So you should at this point be able to make changes - like that removed 1099 - and look at the "before" and "after" versions of your income tax return to determine what's happening.
I understand your point. Please let me ask another way. Why did the "refund-o-meter"amount drastically change after I paid for TTax? Also, why doesn't it change when I go back and edit the Federal section (like removing the 1099, which I did)?
I mean, with regard to your last sentence, I am not able to make changes with any effect to "before" and "after" as reflected on the "refund-o-meter". I'm using the online version.
I just solved it. My apologies for leading you down a rabbit hole. The problem was I neglected to complete the health coverage section - that's why I was getting dinged. Thanks a lot for your help.
