I drove to attend business training seminars instead of traveling via air. How to deduct transportation expense? by standard mileages? or Gas, Oil, parking fees?

I drove to attend business training seminars instead of traveling via air. Sometimes driving costed more than air fares. How to deduct transportation expense? by mileages? or Actual gas, Oil, parking fees?

Are there rules that I can only claim the expense as the lesser of air fares and driving cost?

No, if you drove the cost of air travel will not be a factor.

As for expenses, you can enter your mileage and actual expenses and then TurboTax will help you figure out which is the best one for you to take.

Parking fees are in addition to mileage expenses as are tolls.
