If you do not have foreign financial assets and TurboTax keeps switching back automatically, try these steps:
- Check Your 1099-INT Form: Ensure the FATCA box is not checked when entering or uploading your 1099-INT form. If it is checked, TurboTax might think you have foreign assets or your 1099-INT may include foreign income.
- Sign into Turbo Tax and click here to go to your 1099-INT entry.
- If the FATCA Box is Checked Correctly: This indicates that you may have a reporting obligation under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Specifically, it means:
- Foreign Financial Assets: You might need to report specified foreign financial assets if their value exceeds certain threshold.
- Form 8938: You are required to file Form 8938, Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets, along with your tax return
- If the FATCA Box is Checked Incorrectly: There may still be a Form 8938 in your return. To delete it:
- Go to "Tax Tools" > "Tools" > "Delete a form" and remove Form 8938
