The New York City enhanced real property tax credit expired 12/31/2019 so it is not part of the 2020 New York tax return.

See Income tax forms by year to file Form NYC-208 for a prior year.

While filing 2020 NY state taxes, why is EASYSTEP asking questions about NYC Enhanced Real Property Tax Credit when this credit has expired on Dec. 31, 2019? When you answer all the questions, Turbo Tax says that you're not eligible for this credit which is very deceptive especially if you've received this credit in all prior tax years when this credit was available. The entire EASYSTEP questionnaire on this topic should be removed since this credit is no longer available in 2020.

How much is the credit?

The credit can be as much as $500.

How to claim the credit

  • If you file a New York State personal income tax return, claim this credit on your return by filing Form NYC-208 with your return.
  • If you are not required to file a New York State income tax return, you may still claim this credit.
