I can see my EIC is wrong and there is an error on the form, how can this be fixed?

Here is a grab from the same forms.  There is definitely a problem. I'm super frustrated, I have been using TurboTax for over 10 years, and there really isn't much you can do to screw things up, but there is something wrong, and I don't want to have to pay anything more to have to speak with a live person to get it fixed.

The TurboTax calculation is very reliable, so there's probably not a fix to be made.

Your federal EIC amount is computed by referencing the EIC Table and comparing:

  • The EIC amount based on earned income, and
  • The EIC amount based on adjusted gross income (AGI).

The smaller amount of EIC is what's used for your EIC, regardless of whether earned income or AGI is higher.

See the TurboTax Help article What are the qualifications for the Earned Income Credit (EIC or EITC)? for more information.

It is saying my children are not qualifying, and on the form, the box for them being under 24 is not selected. That is all incorrect.  I have gone through to make sure all of their information is correct and it does not correct the information.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2024 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

I have confirmed this information again, and it still does not recognize my children. I have used TurboTax for years and have never run into an issue like this before, that I am aware of.

What version of the software are you using?  Are you using desktop download software?   Deluxe?  Premier?  Home and Business?

And....what filing status are you using?    Single?  Married filing jointly?  Married filing separately?  Head of Household?

I'm using the Deluxe Windows downloaded version and I'm filing as Head of Household.

You cannot file as Head of Household if you have not entered a qualifying dependent, so the children must be entered or your filing status would be displayed as Single or Married filing separately.   Check and see what is shown for your filing status.

If it is showing HOH, then something else has been entered incorrectly about the kids in MY INFO.  You will need to go back through the screens for them --again-- and look to see if somehow the box for "invalid SSN" got checked, or see how you answered that weird question about whether they paid over half their own support -- you have to say NO.

Understand your frustration.   Did you mark that the kids were full-time students?   If they are older than 18 and were not full-time students then you do not get EIC for them.

Mine is wrong too. It says I qualify for EIC but then it says my income is over the limit which it is not, it's under the $55,768 limit. How can it say I qualify with two children and my income is under the limit of $55,768 and I do not get all the credit, only $800 is what is says it will give me??

If you meet all the qualifications for EIC, TurboTax will calculate the amount you will receive based on the IRS EITC Tables. The amount of credit you receive is calculated based on your filing status, the number of qualifying children, and your amount and kind of income. ‌Not everyone gets the maximum amount.

I filed electronically in late January. The IRS sent me a request a month later asking me to verify my EITC credit status. Since I have no minor children this seems odd. Since my electronically filed return is now six weeks old and the IRS still hasn’t processed it I am suspecting a bug that was not visible in the feed. My printed return shows no mention of the EITC. After the RE Tax entry bug, still existing printing problem and now this it appears some basic tests weren’t executed prior to software release.
