I am being asked to complete form 2441 for child and dependent care expenses. What is this for? I have supplied the pre-school information already.

Form 2441 is the form that the IRS uses to process the child and dependent care credit. Usually, this form is completed automatically when you complete the child and dependent care credit section of TurboTax. Sometimes the form can appear to be incomplete even if you have entered most of the information.

Review your entries to make sure that all of the information is entered such as provider' name, providers EIN number, how much was paid and the correct dependent is listed.

In order to review your entries for the Child and Dependent Care Credit

  • Login to your TurboTax online account
  • Click Take me to my return or pick up where I left off
  • In the search box (located in the upper right hand corner), type the words child and dependent care
  • Click the child and dependent care link that appears in the search results
  • Continue with the onscreen instructions to review your entries.

If all of that information is correct, there may be an extra Form 2441 on your return in error. You can delete any forms you don't need in the Delete A Form section of TurboTax. See the TurboTax FAQ below that explains how to check forms listed on your return and how to delete if necessary.
