I am a teacher and for 6 months I had to work/teach from home. Can I use home office deductions?

Schools were closed due to Covid.  We had to work from home.

If you are a W-2 employee then employee business expenses are not deductible on a federal tax return due to the tax code changes in effect for tax years 2018 thru 2025.

However, you may be eligible for the educators deduction -

For the Teacher (Educator) deduction -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Employment Expenses
On Teacher (Educator) Expenses, click on the start or update button

Or enter teacher deduction in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to teacher deduction
