How to report personal property tax for car in Missouri.

Turbotax instructions are unclear on what to do for personal property tax on a car in Missouri. It sounds like it should be reported as "vehicle registration fees". However, when I go to enter that, it wants to itemize by car. We have two vehicles and our tax receipts only show the total of both for assessed and taxed value, not per individual vehicle.

Yes, enter the cars property taxes in the car registration fees section. You don't have to separate each car's amount if it is not readily discernible. You can enter as one amount. That is how it will be transferred to your schedule A-one total amount. To navigate to the section:

  • In your open return, select My Account
  • Tools
  • Topic Search
  • Type 'car registration fees' in the box, then select GO
