How to fix TIN error on 1099 INT of a foreign bank. I put nothing there but Turbotax keeps asking for Payer's TIN in final review and indicates that can't be e-file.

The payer for a 1099-INT is a foreign bank with no Federal ID number.  I put nothing there but Turbotax keeps asking for Payer's TIN and indicates that I can't e-file with the error.  How to fix the issue?

That info is optional and should not cause an error. I suggest inserting a dummy nbr. such as the nbr. 1 nine times.

To correct the problem, you would:

  1. First you would delete the Form 1099-Int in the software
  2. Then enter the interest through general interest

To delete a form off of your return you need to:

  1. Select Tax Forms in the Black bar on the left side of the screen.
  2. Select Tools from the drop down menu.
  3. On the Tools Center Select Delete a form.
  4. Locate the form on the list and select Delete.
  5. You will be asked to confirm the deletion.

You would enter your Interest Income

  1. Enter interest income other in the Search Magnifying Glass in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select Go to 1099-Int in the Blue box.

You should be able to enter your interest income without entering a TIN.

Deleting form and following search option with "interest income other" option does not solve this problem. Even in second attempt FEIN number was insisted. Please help how to resolve FEIN number problem

You can enter the foreign interest as miscellaneous income in TurboTax:

Open your return in TurboTax

  1. Click on Wages & Income

  2. Scroll down to All Income

  3. Scroll down to Less Common Income

  4. Scroll down to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C

  5. Click start

  6. Scroll down to Other reportable income

  7. Answer yes

  8. Enter interest description and amount
