How much can I claim for Insulation material after I received rebate from state energy saving program?

I hired a contractor to add insulation in the attic in December 2021. The material cost around $4,000. However, after qualifying/receiving state energy-saving rebate (Mass Save), the actual out of pocket expense for the whole project, including installation,  was around $1,100. How much can I claim for insulation material on Form 5695?

You can claim $1,100 as the expense for the insulation on Form 5695. The rebate that you received reduces the cost that you paid for the insulation.

Use Form 5695 to figure and take their residential energy credits.

  • Login to your account.
  • Select Federal from the left menu.
  • Go to Deductions and Credits.
  • Scroll down to Your Home and click show more.
  • Click start next to Home Energy Credits
