Even if you are taking the standard deduction, if you paid property tax enter the amount paid on your return. Depend on the state you live in, you might be able to itemize your deductions on your state return.
However, if you didn't pay any property tax or you are not claiming it on your return:
- Open your return
- Select Pick up where I left off.
- On the left under Federal, select Deductions and Credits.
- On the screen Your tax breaks, select Start/Edit next to Property (Real Estate) Taxes.
- On the screen Did you pay property or real estate taxes? Select No.
