How do I run my taxes on long form to compare to standard deduction?

Turbo tax had me take the standard deduction before comparing adding in medical expenses which I believe would make the long form more beneficial.

Yes. Just enter all of your potential itemized deductions and see if it exceeds the standard deduction.

For Medical Expenses, keep in mind that they are limited to the amount that exceeds 10% of your AGI (roughly, your income).  This threshold is 7.5% if you were 65 or older in 2016.

Go to Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits > and continue through all the questions.

At the end of the deductions interview, you will get a screen that says "We've Chosen Itemized Deductions for You" if they exceed the standard deduction.
