How do i know if my medical insurance premiums are pretax or not

If you paid your health insurance premiums through your employer, there's a very good chance you paid them with pre-tax dollars.  Some employers indicate on the pay stub if a particular benefit was paid for with after tax dollars, so you might check a recent pay stub.

If you paid your insurance premiums out of your bank account, you paid with after-tax dollars and can deduct the premiums as a medical expense.
