Form 2555 (Foreign Earned Income Exclusion) calculates the amount of foreign earned income and/or foreign housing you can exclude from taxation. Form 2555-EZ is a simplified version of this form.

Here's how to add – or remove – a Form 2555 or 2555-EZ from your return:

  1. Open your return.
(To do this, sign into TurboTax and select the blue Take me to my return button.)
  2. Do a search for foreign income, and then select the "Jump to" link in the search results.
  3. Continue through the foreign income section, answering questions as you go, until you reach the screen Do you want to try and exclude your foreign earned income? (if single), or Whose Foreign Income Would You Like to Try and Exclude? (if married).
  4. Answer Yes (to add a 2555 or 2555-EZ – we'll figure out which one you need) or No (to remove it), select Continue, and follow any on-screen instructions.

Tip: The -T or -S suffix after the 2555 stands for taxpayer or spouse, respectively.

Or,

Please follow the steps below to remove Form 2555-T(Foreign Income).

To Remove Form 2555-T in TurboTax Online:

1. Go to "My Account" in the top right corner

2. Select "Tools"

3. Under "Tools Center" select "Delete a Form"

4.  Navigate to "Form 2555-T" and select "Delete" next to it

Please ignore. I was able to change the amount to zero. The block still appeared on the screen but the refund amount is adjusted. Thanks.

Hi Samial,

I already went to Tools to delete the form Form 2555-T. However, the section on foreign earned income exclusion still appears under my Income. It was a mistake as I am trying to apply the carryover foreign tax credit and couldn't figure out how. Now I need to delete it so that my return amount can be recalculated. Do you know what's wrong?

Thanks,

Ly

I continually get a "needs review" pop up when I am trying to finish out may taxes and I cannot progress.

It says : "Total Foreign Earned Income has a value for foreign earned income but dates for the foreign earned income exclusions aren't entered."

I never selected that I earned any foreign income and I do not know how to make this form go away. I tried the 2 mentioned ways in this thread but when I type in the search bar, no 'jump to' link appears and in "my account" there is no tools button. I called customer service and they walked me through the steps and also confirmed that they did not see these options. I tried deleting all of my W2s and staring over, but I keep getting the same issue. Please help.

Try this sequence of events to see if this works for you.

  1. log into Turbo
  2. Go to federal>wages and income
  3. less common income>Foreign income and Exclusion
  4. See if there is anything entered here. If so, delete it if it doesn't apply.
  5. Now navigate along the left pane of your program and go to tax tools>tools>delete a form>form 2555. If the form is present, delete it from the list of forms. Delete any forms referencing the 2555.
  6. Click out of this section and go back into the list of forms to see if it is  permanently deleted.
  7. If so, sign out of your Turbo Tax program.  Sign back in and see if this error persists as you are doing your review.

I’m having this same issue with the same error coming up. We do have foreign earned income but wish to use the credit rather than FEIE and have indicated in foreign income that we do not wish to exclude that income. I’ve also checked the list of forms to try to just delete it but the 2555-t doesn’t show there… yet this error keeps coming up during review.
Any other suggestions on what I could do to get past this?

If you have entered your Foreign Income and indicated that you do not want to use the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, you will not have Form 2555 (for the exclusion).

In Review, TurboTax is asking you to review your entries to be sure you don't want to exclude the income.

You should be able to Continue past this in Review.

However, if you have used the FEIE in the past, you may need to revoke your previous election with the IRS.

Here's more discussion on FEIE and FTC you may find helpful.

This is the screen that keeps coming up, it’s asking me to remove indicators that foreign earned income qualifies for exclusion, but I can’t see anywhere where I’ve indicated it does- other than stating that the income was earned outside of the US, then checking that we don’t want to exclude that income.
Since it’s not showing up in my forms list to delete, can I just carry on and it won’t actually be included in our package when submitted?

TurboTax should remove Form 2555-T if you say you didn’t want to claim the foreign earned income exclusion.

If that doesn’t work, you should be able to delete Form 2555-T.

It sounds like you tried both of those steps.

Try this. Go back to the foreign income section. When TurboTax asks whether you want to exclude your foreign earned income, say YES. Advance to the next screen and then delete Form 2555-T.

  1. Type foreign income in Search (magnifying glass) in the top right
  2. Select Jump to foreign income
  3. Continue until you see “Would You Like to Try and Exclude Your Foreign Earned Income?” Tap YES and Continue
  4. Tap Tax Tools in the left column
  5. Tap Tools
  6. Select Delete a Form in the Tools Center
  7. Scroll down to Form 2555-T and delete
  8. Tap Continue With My Return in the lower right when you are finished

I can not see a "tools" button or tab anymore. Is the web format different now? If so, can you tell me how to delete a 2555 Form?

You have to be signed onto your TurboTax online account and accessing the 2022 online tax return before any of the links on the left side column will be available.
