How do I deduct the costs of shots to travel on a mission trip and where do I input it?

I went on a personal mission trip to volunteer and I had to get shots that were not covered under my medical insurance.  Where do I input that as a deduction?

You can deduct all of your out of pocket expenses (including your shots) as cash contributions as well as 14 cents per mile for travelling by auto in the service of your qualified volunteer organization.

IRS Qualified Charity List

To report volunteer expenses in TurboTax:

  • Click My Account (Top right of your screen).

  • Select Tools.

  • In the pop up window, select Topic Search.

  • In the search bar, type in charitable contributions.

  • Highlight it and select GO, and follow the prompts.

To benefit from the above, you must itemize your deductions.
