How can I make the Charitable contribution on Oregon OR-A line 18 be the same as itemized input in Federal? Oregon amount is over $1000 less?

Understand Federal standard deduction is more than itemized, but itemizing gets a better Oregon refund.

Ok I get it.

My oops. Was comparing  OR-A cash only with Fed total for difference of $636.50.

Comparing OR-A total with fed total difference is $299.50 which rounds up to the fed $300 charitable if filing with standard deduction not itemized. Sometimes walking away, trying again, walking away, staying away for a day, before trying again is what it takes.  My bad.

Thanks for trying @ReneeM7122 and @AmyC

The line 18 of charity comes straight from the federal. Gifts to Charity amounts will show reduced amounts if they are limited on the federal return. You can itemize on OR while taking standard on the federal.

If your charity isn't limited by your income, you may have some data stuck somewhere. You might want to delete the state and let the data flow in again.

Stuck information

  1. Delete the form:
    1. How to Delete  Log out of your return
    2. Try one or more of the following:
      • Don't use Internet Explorer.
      • Clear cache and cookies,
      • Sign in using a different browser.
      • Sign in using a different device.
    3. Log back into your return.
    4. Enter the form again.

"limited by your income" What are those limits that reduce the charitable contribution from the federal form?

Thanks in advance!

The charitable deduction is limited when the gift makes up a large percentage of your income. Beginning in 2020, you can deduct cash contributions in full up to 100% of your AGI to qualified charities, donations of property up to 30% of your AGI and appreciated long-term securities worth up to 20% of your AGI. Anything in excess of these amounts can be carried forward to the next tax year, for a maximum of five years.

Here is a TurboTax article about Charitable giving  and how it works.

Sorry, still does not explain why total charitable cash donations itemized in fed section is higher than what appears on schedule OR-A, nor how to fix.  Try again?
