Hi, I paid foreign taxes for the first time for the tax year 2018. I am not clear on how to fill out the form for that. Should I pay extra to talk to a CPA?

please provide more info.

did you work in a foreign country?

or

did you work in the US for a foreign company that withheld foreign taxes?

or

are you talking about foreign taxes withheld on dividends, interest, rents. royalties?

if the last, were  the foreign taxes reported on a tax form ?    if so what was it.

please reply back in this thread so we can follow the discussion

I am living in Italy but did NOT work in Italy in 2018. But I had to pay taxes on my worldwide income/investments even though I was not working. Basically had to pay Italian taxes on my savings in my US account.

I am talking about the tax credit that I would be due in the US because Italian taxes are higher. So the fact that I had to pay tax in Italy means that tax on remaining US income will be reduced based on the taxes paid to Italy.
