Haven't shipped with the Navy yet, but as a requirement for my job I have to use my personal vehicle to drive to and from training across the state. Can I write this off

In 2016 I drove an average of 4-5 hours per day, two days a week to get to the training locations. I was not compensated by the Navy for this because I am not yet on their payroll. An accountant I spoke with said I could write those expenses in mileage off because it's a requirement for the job I'm pursuing to attend these trainings. I can't find where to fill in that information on Turbo Tax though.

Since these expenses were directly related to employment, they may be deductible as job-related expenses. 

Unreimbursed job-related expenses are deductible on Schedule A (Itemized Deductions) and are subject to the 2% floor for miscellaneous itemized deductions.  To input your job-related expenses (TurboTax Deluxe edition or higher is required to file itemized deductions):
