Free use of car for Doordash, do I need to report vehicle expenses?

Hi everyone,

Its been a real tough year for my youngest son and I, so our friend was kind enough to lend me his car to use for free to make money working doordash and ubereats until we get back on our feet.

My question is; because the car was lent to me for free use, and he paid for all the vehicle expenses (including gas), would it be acceptable to list the income I made from doordash and ubereats but leave my vehicle expenses blank, as I received completely free use of a vehicle.

Will the IRS wonder how I can have earned money with doordash and ubereats and not have vehicle expenses? Will this be a problem? If so, how should I go about reporting this?

Thanks everyone, any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Yes, not only is it acceptable, but it is what you should do. The truth is you had no vehicle expenses, so you should not claim them. The IRS will not have a problem with this.
