Form 8911 Delay

Form 8911 gets updated each week, Feb 14, Feb 21, Feb 28, now telling me to check back on March 6. Is there a way to just kill the form and file electronically without waiting for the update? It looks like I probably won't qualify for a credit for a home charger installation anyway.

If you are unwilling or unable to wait for the updated form to be released, you have the option to change your answers to the Energy Credit questions in TurboTax. Or you may try deleting Form 8911 from your return, but it may repopulate based on the entries you've made.

To review your entries for the Energy-Efficient Charging Station, go to Deductions & Credits and scroll down to the Energy-Efficient topic. Click Edit/Update on that line and delete/remove your entries.

You might also confirm the related forms are no longer in your return.

If you are using the Desktop version of our software (CD/Download):

  1. Click on Forms in the upper right of your screen
  2. Find the relevant form on the left hand side of your screen in the Forms in My Return list
  3. Click on the form (note, there may be one for both taxpayer and spouse if married filing jointly)
  4. Click Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen
  5. Click Yes to confirm you want to delete

If you are using TurboTax Online:

  1. Login to TurboTax and click on Continue your return to get into the prep section
  2. Click on My Account at the top of your screen
  3. Click on Tools
  4. In the list at the bottom, click on Delete a form
  5. Click Delete next to the relevant form
  6. Click Delete Selected Form to confirm deletion
