Form 8396-Mortgage Interest Credit

I need to complete Form 8396 "Mortgage Interest Credit" in order to submit my return.

My Turbotax CD version states: “We can’t file your return just yet because the government is still working on finishing up certain tax forms that are in your 2021 tax return.”

My version is updated.

The IRS website states Form 8396 was posted 1/06/2022.

When will Turbotax update to include the final version of the form?

Form 8396 is scheduled to be available around 2/10/2022.   This link is a list of forms not yet available and when they expect to be available.

I've patiently been waiting for Form 8396 to be made available in TT since Jan. 30, 2022.

I was advised it was scheduled for availability around Feb 10, 2022.

Today, after updating, I was disappointed to find that 8396 was not included.

I checked the availability of forms and it now states March 3, 2022.

The IRS made the form available on Jan 6, 2022.

Please help me understand why this is taking so long to be updated?

Thank you.

The IRS started this tax season pretty far behind.  That kind of delay flows down to the states.  So the IRS finalizes their forms and then the states finalize their forms.  And then the TurboTax programmers get the forms and have to integrate them into the TurboTax program.  Then there is testing to make sure that the newly added forms work with the program properly.  Then they are rolled out to the public.  As inconvenient as the waiting is it will still get your tax return processed faster than paper filing it.

It appears the only change in the 2021 form from the 2020 form is the tax year dates.

All other information is the same.

Good excuse. However, other Tax Software companies made the update without a delay like this. Looks like I'll be using a competitor for the first time in 15-years!
