Form 8283. Do I need an appraisal for more than $5000 donation to one charity. . I can't get an appraisal for stuff I don't have. Won't the donation receipt work?

I donated over $5k of furniture and home improvement stuff.  We don't have the stuff.  How can I get an appraisal now?  Won't the donation records work?  How can I get a signature from the charity too.

The appraisal requirement does not apply to one specific charity, but to a specific item or group of items.  If you can divide the items into groups with value less than $5,000 you would not need the appraisal.  If you cannot separate the items into groups, you will not be able to claim the deduction without the appraisal.

Similar items of property are items of the same generic category or type, such as coin collections, paintings, books, clothing, jewelry, nonpublicly traded stock, land, or buildings.

It is two different donations, I already filed when Turbotax said I need to file the form.  Too late.  I can't break it out now and we are going to lose the entire deduction and owe thousands in taxes.  The return has been accepted.  Turbotax says to send it in.  What happens if I don't.

Same thing happened to me but for 2018. My tax return has been accepted by IRS. Did the IRS require you to amend you return or was the acceptance good?
