Flights as a college expense

My son goes to an out of state college and flies back and forth several times. This is pretty much required for him to commute. There are even times of the year when he cannot be in his dorm because of policy, and he does not take summer classes so he is usually home in the summer.

Would it be possible to use the cost of the flights as a college expense deduction of sorts?

TIA.

No.  Travel to and from school is not a qualified education expense.  It is not deductible or eligible for credits.  It is not a qualified expense for 529 & Coverdell account distributions.
