Entered block 1 of the 1098 (20834.90) and at the end of the segment turbotax is showing "Your $30,835 of mortgage deductions..." where did the 1000 come from?

Review your entries as it could be just a typo.  Also, the total mortgage deduction can include points, mortgage insurance premiums, or real estate taxes.   Click on Edit/Add next to the Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098) section and verify you only have the one 1098 entered.  You may have one that carried over from the previous year that is being added to the total.
