My job is refusing to change anyone's status to remote or change any tax-related information as they are assuming we will eventually go back to the office. However, I want to avoid giving OR an interest-free loan as I would be receiving all WA-related income at the end of the year back from OR. If/Once we all go back to the office I can change my filing with OR. If I claim exempt I want to make sure this wouldn't cause any unexpected issues when filing taxes next year.
If you are physically working in WA and a resident of WA, then you are not subject to OR tax on the wages earned while working in WA.
Your approach is rational - claim exemption from OR tax while working remotely from WA, and resume OR withholding when you have to go back to the OR office.
