what year was it put into service? for a qualifying vehicle you claim the credit on that year's return form 8936

For vehicles placed in service April 18, 2023 and after:

The sale qualifies only if:

• You buy the vehicle new
• The seller reports required information to you at the time of sale and to the IRS.
  • Sellers are required to report your name and taxpayer identification number to the IRS for you to be eligible to claim the credit.

@christopher-jone are you asking about a "rebate" that may be from your state?  are you asking about the federal tax credit when purchasing an EV?  did you purchase a new or used EV?  in what year did you purchase this vehicle?
