Does the Renters deduction come up as I did not select this on my return ?

Renters deduction wants me to list months lived there.  I own my condo,  not renting? Why is this coming up ?

To get back into your Indiana state return and review your entries:

  1. Log into the software and select the blue button Take me to my return
  2. Select State from the left side bar
  3. Click Continue
  4. Then select Edit or Continue next to Indiana

You can't see your forms until after you pay for the software and are in the File tab (left menu bar). However, you can preview your main form (just not supporting schedules). This is good practice to review regardless.

  1. Click the arrow by Tax Tools at the bottom of the left menu  (if you don't see this, click or tap the 3 lines in the upper-left corner).
  2. Then select Tools
  3. In the popup window, click View Tax Summary
  4. Then, select  Preview my 1040 on the left side.
  5. Then, you'll see an option for your state on the left side.

Sounds like a state credit/deduction. They are often for renting or owning. What state are you in?

I am in Indiana.  I don't  rent  or own a rental so why would I be eligible for this ?  Also in turbo tax don't know how to get back to that part of return.   Thank you.

It's standard for the software to ask about common deductions. I'd recommend going back into your state and reviewing your selections. Also, what is the question specifically asking you? There's a property tax deduction as well, so I'd answer the questions as they specifically apply to you. Be sure to say you paid "$0" rent.

Thank you.  I went from Federal tax right into Indiana tax and everything was imported.  I don't  know how to get into the actual form.

Got it. I provided directions for getting back into your Indiana return and previewing the form below.
