Does a child that turns 17 in December not qualify for the Child Tax Credit?

Turbo Tax says he does not qualify, but I can get $500 for "Other Dependent" for him. He does not work as he has after school activities and I work late most days, so he doesn't have transportation to a job.

The child must be under the age of 17 on 12/31/2024 to be eligible for the child tax credit.  If they are age 17 or older then they are eligible for the Other Dependent credit of $500

Per the IRS guidelines, a child must be under the age of 17 at the end of the school year for the child tax credit.  Here is the link to the IRS website showing the guidelines:

No.   If the child turned 17 before the stroke of midnight on December 31, you do not get the child tax credit.  You get the $500 credit for other dependents.  Remember that when he was born in December once upon a time, you got the CTC for that whole year even when he was a tiny baby.
