Do I have to have the Standard Deduction?

My refund went from almost $500 with the Standard Deduction but when I added a little bit more income it cut my refund in half because of the Standard Deduction.

It is possible that the extra income put you into a higher tax bracket.

No.  You always have the option to itemize.
