Credit

My daughter will be 17 on august 24th this year. When is the last year I can claim her on my taxes?

As long as you are providing for more than 1/2 of her support, you can claim her. The credit is reduced, though - for 18 and older you receive $500 per dependent.

To claim her as a dependent - this depends on a number of factors. Please see the section on Dependents starting on page 25 in Pub 17.

If you are thinking of some other way to claim her, please tell us what you are looking for.

Claiming her going forward not only depends on her age but also if she is a full time student and how much she earns as well as who provides her support. See page 26 of Pub 17 for details.
