Clarification on What Medical Expenses I can include this year Pub 502.

"the date reported on the statement of the financial institution showing when payment was made is the date of payment". Pub 502.  Financial Stmt. shows purchase was made 12/30/2016 but posted to my account on 1/2/2017. Can I itemize in 2016 or do I wait until 2017?

You can itemize in 2016, since the statement shows 12/30/2016. The statement will be your proof in case you are ever asked to substantiate your expenses.
