You can only put expenses on schedule C that are related to that specific source of income. For example, if you are a technical consultant, you can include the expense of developing and soliciting new clients. You cannot deduct unrelated expenses such as a search for a W-2 job.
you can deduct job search expenses for W-2, if your looking for a new job in same profession. these would be deducted on schedule A 2 % itemized deductions. this deduction is not available in 2018
This is the 5th time you have posted. Please do not continue to do so.
This was a completely different question SweetieJean that was not fully answered before
I see that this thread is 4 years old, so I hope you've already found the answer you were looking for. But just in case, I'll chime in.
To answer your question, job search expenses are deductible if you're searching for a job in the same field as your previous job. However, if you're switching fields entirely, those expenses may not be deductible.
By the way, have you considered exploring a career as a sterile processing technician? It's a great field that's always in demand, and [removed] has some helpful info on what it takes to get started.
@didyhadid Not sure why you are posting to this old thread, and you are offering an incorrect answer. Since the tax laws changed for 2018 and beyond, it is not possible to deduct job search expenses on a federal tax return. It seems like your main interest was to post some sort of advertisement here.
