Can you claim a generator for a home office as a business asset and depreciate it? Got it to power my office after the hurricane. Now use it a few times a year

If the generator is used more for personal purposes since the Hurricane, I would probably not take depreciation on that item. 

If there is an asset that you deduct for business using depreciation that you convert to personal use, the IRS can require you to recapture the depreciation into income.
