Can Union Dues be an exemption if they are not taken out of my paycheck?

Where do I claim the union dues that I paid?

Union dues are a possible deduction if you can prove you paid them, whether they are taken out of your paycheck or paid directly.  But this is only if you itemize.  Also they are in the category of deductions called 2% miscellaneous.  Only if all the stuff in that category exceeds 2% of income can you deduct i t and then only the excess over 2%.
