Can't claim moving expenses in first year?

The time test states we have to work full-time for 39 weeks. So since my wife has been working since we moved in June, we can't deduct our moving expenses this year?

Per the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond, moving expenses are not deductible on a federal return except for certain active duty members of the military.

There are several states that allow a deduction for moving expenses on the state return:  AZ, AR, CA, HI, IA, MA, MN, NJ, NY, PA and VA  You can enter your moving expenses in the federal software and the information will flow to your state return.

Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Other Deductions and Credits>Moving Expenses

Thanks and yes, since I moved to Arizona, I can deduct moving expenses. But that is NOT the point of my question. Does my wife have to work 39 weeks full-time before we can take the deduction? If so, we won't be able to deduct moving expenses incurred in the summer of 2024 until I do our taxes for 2025. Is that correct?

Sorry----your original question seemed to be asking about moving  expenses in general, and did not refer to a specific state.   Now you say you are in AZ.   I am not familiar with the specific tax laws in AZ for this.   You may need to post another question in the forum that specifically refers to AZ.
