Can my dependent college student claim education credits?

My son is a college student and we claim him as a dependent. When doing our taxes I entered all his school info, 1098-T, expenses, etc… It shows that we cannot get the education credits because our income exceeds the limits.


Can he claim the education credits on his taxes although he’s a dependent on our taxes? If so, how can I go about this on TurboTax?

Dependents cannot get education credits.    And whether you are claiming him or not, the rule is that a dependent who can be claimed must say on their own return that someone else can claim them.
