can I get a solar credit for solar panels for both my primary residence and secondary residence in the same year

No. You can claim the solar tax credit twice, but only on one property per year. If you install solar systems on both your primary and secondary homes in the same year, you can only claim the credit for one of them. 

 

You can claim the credit on a second home as long as:

  • The home is located in the United States.
  • You live in it for part of the year.
  • You do not rent it out to anyone else.
