Can i deduct my car registration fees twice if i paid them twice the same year

I purchased my car on Jan 1 2016 and paid the original registration fee. I paid the renewal fee in December 2016. Can i deduct the registration fee twice in the same year.

Yes, as long as you paid both of them in 2016 and they are tax related. I would just add the two numbers together and enter the total amount.

To be deductible, the tax portion must be based on the value of the vehicle and be charged on a yearly basis.

Registration, administrative, or emission testing fees, or tag or plate fees are not deductible for federal purposes. Often, your registration form will show separate lines for each item, be sure you deduct only the portion listed as for a vehicle tax. You may be able to deduct the other fees on your state return.
