Can I deduct a trip to Mexico for dental work, it was a necessary procedure and resulted in a large savings over a US dentist. A 2000 mile round trip by car.

For the first six months of 2022, the IRS allowed 18 cents per mile for medical purposes. From July 1, 2022, the medical rate increased to 22 cents per mile.

Yes, you can deduct a trip to Mexico for dental work. But, you need to document the travel for the trip that relates to the dental work done. Any additional costs of a vacation or pleasure nature would not be deductible. Make sure you have records of the work that was done that document the expenses that you are claiming.
