It automatically gives you the extra amount if you or your spouse is 65 or older.  Are you asking about 2021 or 2022?    $1,350 is the over 65 amount for 2021 Joint return.  Check your date of birth under My Info.

For 2022 the standard deduction amounts are:

Single 12,950 + 1,750 for 65 and over or blind (14,700)

HOH 19,400 + 1,750 for 65 and over or blind (21,150)

Joint 25,900 + 1,400 for each 65 and over or blind (27,300/28,700)

Married filing Separate 12,950 + 1,400 for 65 and over or blind (14,350)

You do not change the Standard Deduction when using TurboTax.

When entering your personal information in the My Info section of the TurboTax online editions and you enter your Date of Birth that is before January 2, 1958, the increased Standard Deduction for age 65 and older is automatically entered on the Form 1040 Line 12.

Standard deductions for 2022

  • Single - $12,950 add $1,750 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Separately - $12,950 add $1,400 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Jointly - $25,900 add $1,400 for each spouse age 65 or older
  • Head of Household - $19,400 add $1,750 if age 65 or older
